Three fights have broken out in Maidstone town centre within days of each other but police have assured the public the bustups were not linked.

Shocked shoppers stared in disbelief as a fight erupted between two women on Thursday afternoon.

A video shows the pair exchanging blows before dragging each other around by the hair.

Two men step in after a few seconds and try to break up the fracas, thought to have happened between 4pm and 5pm in Jubilee Square.

Police say they were called to a disturbance at about 4.30pm, but it is not clear if this was related to the fight caught on camera.

A spokesman said officers arrested a 29-year-old woman, of no fixed address, on suspicion of assault and bailed her until the end of the month.

Another video emerged on Friday, appearing to show two young men fighting in Mill Street, Maidstone, close to the junction with the High Street.

During the one-minute clip, the pair are egged on by someone out of shot who swears and seems to be backing one fighter, constantly telling him to hit his opponent.

Police can find no record of the incident, implying it was not reported to them.

Then on Saturday up to six men brawled in Brewer Street just after 10am.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a small group of men but were unable to confirm the number of peo- ple fighting. Rumours on social media suggested that the row had been going on for 15 minutes before officers arrived.

Police arrested Adedayo Fadeyi, 35, of Bedford Place, Maidstone, on suspicion of making threats to commit criminal damage in relation to the incident.

Fadeyi was not charged with this offence but he was charged with four counts of assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty, two counts of criminal damage, and one count of threatening behaviour against an officer.

The charges relate to offences Fadeyi allegedly committed while in custody following the fight.

A police spokesman said: “There is nothing to suggest these incidents have been preplanned.

“There is not a wider problem regarding fighting in the town centre.

“However, officers are taking steps to try and prevent future disturbances.”
