column. Maidstone Museum: On Saturday August 27, the museum, St Faith’s Street, will be holding the workshop Bean A Sack from 10:30am1pm and 1:30pm-4pm. Create a useful and decorative notice board and container from a coffee bean sack. Tickets cost £10. Cafe culture is a free monthly drop-in sessions for those aged over 65 provides an opportunit­y to learn more about the items held in the museum’s collection­s. Join in on the final Friday of the month (August 26) in the museum cafe from 10:30am-11:30am for chats and object handling. On Thursday August 25, the museum will be holding a Museum Lates film night from 6pm-9pm with Splintered Cinema showing Trash, an action adventure filmed in Brazil. Enjoy a traditiona­l Brazilian meal of black bean Feijoada served with rice and deep fried banana and cabbage Mineira while you watch, with a free Cachaca cocktail! Veggie option available – state when booking (Certificat­e 15). Tickets £8. Make it workshops: Join in one of these fun summer holiday workshops and use recycled materials to create a toy or a game to play with. Gary Hughes: The Point of Landscape in Cornwall is a free all day exhibition at the museum cafe until Sunday, August 28. All the work featured in this exhibition by Gary Hughes was painted recently in Cornwall. It signs, largely through the use of pointillis­t technique, aspects of the county familiar to its many visitors. The work intends to provide a semantic simplicity through complex applicatio­n to content: such is the nature of Cornwall. for charity, run for fun. There’s no pressure, just some easy moves and lots of laughs. It’s all about getting involved, having fun and enjoying the whole experience of the day. Dog jog: The Dog Jog series are for you and your dog to get fit and have fun. Mote Park’s Dog Jog is on Saturday, August 27 at 2pm. Each event offers a relaxed and fun atmosphere with no times and no pressure. When you cross the finish line you’ll receive a doggy bag jam-packed with goodies for both you and your dog, as well as Dog Jog Collar Keyring medal! Live music: The band Bad Pandas are playing at Earls, 30 Earl Street on Saturday August 20 from 8:30pm. Adult education courses: Are you thinking about taking a course, but need some inspiratio­n? Open air theatre: Ideal for the whole family, Mote Park is hosting an open air theatre featuring a Beatrix Potter play and a Shakespear­e classic on Thursday, August 18. Four Little Rabbits is from 3pm. Peter Rabbit knows very well that he is not to go into Mr McGregor’s garden, but he cannot resist. Beatrix Potter’s original tales are brought to life in this delightful adaptation by Michael Whitmore. The Tempest is from 6:30pm. “O brave new world. That has such people in’t”. Quantum Theatre presents Shakespear­e’s final masterpiec­e, a magical tale of love and sorcery, dark hearts and treachery, truth and theatrical illusion.
