lester.gosbee@btinternet.com The summer of 2016 really did not get going until July 16. June was wet with above average temperatures. However, sunshine was well below average. August was our warmest and sunniest month with a central England temperature of 17C (62.6F), our warmest August since 2004. Overall, the summer of 2016 was just a fraction less warm than the excellent summer of 2013. Rainfall in Frittenden, like most of Kent, for the summer months was 18% below average. In spite of a very wet June, August had just 21mm/ 1.84 inches of rain, just 45% of the average. The warmest September occurred in 2006 at 16.8C (67.24F) which was the average temperature for the first week of September this year. Today (Friday): The Atlantic air will be over us, so it will feel much fresher by day and the nights will be much more comfortable for sleeping. There will be sunny spells mixed with some cloudy periods, and just the outside chance of a shower. Winds will be south westerly between 6 and 12mph with temperatures at 21–22C (70–72F), still above average. Tomorrow (Saturday): Low pressure will be in charge. It will be a dry, rather cloudy morning with rain between 11am and 5pm, dying out but remaining cloudy. It will be quite cloudy from a south westerly direction at 9–20mph with temperatures at 19C (66F). Sunday: A much better day with good sunny spells throughout the day. Winds will be lighter from the south west at 8–12mph with temperatures of 21C (70F). Monday to Thursday: There will be a lot of fine weather for Kent, but hurricane season in the Atlantic will mix with our jet stream, and some unsettled spells could affect our weather. However, there will also be some warmer air from the Continent, giving us warm days with possibly Tuesday and Thursday being the best days with temperatures back up to 25C (77F). Most days will have temperatures above average at 21C (70F) or above.
