Transformer strikes bridge
A huge 87-metre-long transformer hit a motorway bridge as it made its way through Kent at just 12mph.
The load, which is an electricity transformer, left the Port of Dover at 11pm Monday on its way to a substation in Sellindge.
It was said to be the size of a one-bedroom house and almost six metres wide.
A police spokesman said the accident happened at 2.30am, but the transformer is said to have just “brushed under” the bridge.
There are no reports of structural damage.
Two lanes were closed while the accident was tackled.
