Digital speed camera takes to the roads
It’s back! A speed camera missing from Loose Road for nearly six months has been replaced with digital technology as part of a pilot scheme being rolled out across three sites in Kent.
Unlike older the wet-film cameras, there is no physical film involved, meaning offences are recorded and transmitted direct to the police through the mobile phone data network.
Insp Sam Pearson said: “Many of the older safety cameras have been in place for more than 20 years and although still in operation, they are ready for this upgrade.
“Cameras are only installed where there is a history of speedrelated casualties.”
The other trial sites include Valley Drive in Gravesend and Frindsbury Hill in Medway.
