A well known Maidstone nightclub is set to reopen after four years of uncertainty – thanks to a dentist.

The former Chicago Rock Cafe has fallen into disrepair since closing in 2013. Squatters and pigeons have replaced revellers and DJs, and the High Street building has become an eyesore.

But life could be breathed into the High Street venue, with Dr Simon Azimi, owner of Zee Bar in Tunbridge Wells, lodging a licensing application.

The news comes two weeks after the Kent Messenger revealed another clubbers’ favourite, Beluga Bar, in Bank Street, will be reopening as a German bierkeller, complete with live oompah music and a selection of authentic cuisine, tonight (Friday).

Cosmetic dentist Dr Azimi took over Zee Bar, in Tunbridge Wells High Street, two years ago and says it has become one of the town’s most popular spots.

He hopes his Maidstone venture, which will share the name, will follow suit.

The 50-year-old, who lived in Maidstone for eight years and describes it as a second home, said: “I’m very familiar with the town and what the people want, and am confident the club will be a great success.

“My passion is dentistry, but I also love music and seeing people have a good time,” joking that he’ll be seeing people in pain by day and making them happy by night.

He said: “Currently it’s one of the ugliest buildings in Maidstone so we’ll be completely redoing the front of the building. Hopefully it’ll look like a swanky Maidstone club.”

If everything goes to plan, Zee Bar will open by the end of April.
