Looking good in red... and we nose it
Schools, firms and groups of friends did their bit to raise more than £71 million for Comic Relief.
Not surprisingly red was a popular colour for dressing up. This was chosen by pupils at Loose and East Farleigh primary schools, who contributed £1 for the privilege of no school uniform.
Loose Primary School sold 1,000 red noses and children dressed up, generating £1,500 for the charity and £230 was secured at East Farleigh.
Pupils at Brunswick House Primary, in Maidstone, dressed in red, black and white and designed red nose biscuits.
Year six pupils baked for a cake sale and in total the Leafy Lane school raised more than £400.
Newly renamed The Lenham School, formerly Swadelands School, held a lunchtime fair with games, and with clever photo editing staff and students had photos with Red Nose Day celebrities, including chart-topping sensation Ed Sheeran. More than £230 was donated.
In Maidstone town centre author Kit Cox and friends perilously climbed Gabriels Hill over two hours. They recreated the famous Monty Python sketch Climbing the North Face of the Uxbridge Road. This has raised £1,000 so far and more can be made at tinyurl.com/ gabrielhike.
Children and childminders from Georgia’s Explorers, in Wallis Avenue, Maidstone, joined by Kipper the Dog, went on a fundraising walk and contributed £300.
Youngsters at Wateringbury Primary raised £206 and those at Mereworth Primary generated £250.
At Brookfield Junior School money boxes were created and pupils enjoyed wearing red noses and doing sponsored silences.
The Swallow Road school in Larkfield raised more than £1,320.
A 15-minute sponsored silence was held at Borough Green Primary School and children dressed in their football club colours, red and white. This and other activities, raised £725.
Pie Face and a teachers’ lip sync battle were held at East Borough Primary School, raising £791.
Activities at Holmesdale school in Snodland included a bake sale, quizzes and a relay race, to net £784.
