Firm’s support for children’s charity

-

A charity which helps bereaved children from across Kent could be given a £25,000 cash boost.

Mechanical and electrical contractor Synecore, based at Detling, has pledged to raise the funds for Holding On Letting Go (HOLG).

The charity supports grieving children, aged six to 16, and their families.

Paul Thomas, Synecore’s managing director, said: “It has been an ambition of ours to support a local charity for some time through fundraising, donations and sponsorship.

“After much research and meeting the team at Holding On Letting Go, we saw an opportunity where we could really make a difference.”

Caroline Ford, programme manager for HOLG, which is based at The Wisdom Hospice in Rochester, said they were delighted to be chosen by the firm.

She added: “This will mean that we can help more bereaved children in Kent to hold on to their precious memories while learning to let go of the hurt, anger and sadness caused by their grief. We have already started discussing some fabulous ideas, so we’re excited to start developing them.”

The money raised will go towards funding weekends where trained volunteers listen to the children and help them develop coping strategies to move forward with their lives.

Staff at Synecore plan to raise money by running the Bridge Triathlon in Dartford in June, taking part in mud runs and golf competitions and by organising a five-a-side football tournament.

Holding on Letting Go, which relies on donations and fundrais- ing to keep going, runs weekends where trained volunteers talk to children and help them develop coping strategies to move forward with their lives.

Last week, the charity spoke out to stress the importance of allowing grieving youngsters to express their feelings after a BBC documentary starring exfootballer and dad-of-three Rio Ferdinand, who lost his wife to cancer in 2015.

For Mother’s Day, the charity ran bereavement support sessions for children who have lost loved ones to suicide or in other traumatic circumstances.

They have planned a further nine for the coming year and hope to offer more.
