Russets seal title in style

Marden Russets men’s 1sts won the Kent Division 1 title at the weekend.
They beat Canterbury 7-1 on Sunday to clinch promotion to Kent/Sussex Regional 2, pipping Folkestone on goal difference.
Neat finishes from Ben Bardsley gave Marden a two-goal lead midway through the first half and he completed his hat-trick after the break with another smart effort.
Russets continued to push and added further goals through Toussaint Wattine and Tom Edwards (2) before Canterbury pulled one back.
Bardsley completed a fine team and individual performance by adding his fourth and Marden’s seventh, with celebrations at the final whistle continuing at the club dinner.
Marden missed the chance to claim the title the previous day, losing 3-2 at Maidstone 2nds.
Russets 3rds beat BBHC 3-2, while the 4ths beat New Beccehamians 5-1 to banish relegation doubts in Kent Open Divisions 1 and 2 respectively.
Marden, with their new ground on the horizon, are looking for players of all abilities.

Maidstone ladies’ 4ths secured second place and promotion from Kent Division 5 with a 4-2 win at Sevenoaks on Saturday. They peppered the young keeper with series attacks, leading to goals for Bridgette Allen and Nicky Bourne before Oaks replied.
A similar second half saw Allen and Bourne score again before a Sevenoaks consolation.
