Clubs make mark as the best battle it out

Medway & Maidstone athletes won plenty of medals at the Kent County Championsh­ips.

They excelled over two days of action at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford last weekend.

For the senior men, Lewis Heffernan took gold in the 400m in 50.67sec.

There was a clean sweep of medals in the under-17 100m final, with Rory Kuypers taking gold in 11.57, Joshua Oshunrinde silver in 11.59 and Nathan Isaac bronze in 11.84.

There was further sprint success for M& M when David Adeleye won the under-15 100m in 11.85 and added 200m glory in 24.03 the next day.

The club enjoyed a one-two in the under-20 women’s 200m, with Ellie Turner (25.71) pipping Darcey Kuypers (26.07), while Imogen Munday took the 400m hurdles in 1min04.68sec. M& M were at it again in the under-17 women’s 300m hurdles as Eleanor Wastell (46.03) took gold from team-mate Nika Najjar (46.72).

Day one finished with gold for Zara Obamakinwa (29.30m) in the under-15 girls’ discus. On day two, Sonny Nash won the under-20 javelin with 56.18.

Isaac Milham (57.22) added gold in the under-17 400m hurdles, with Benjamin Blake (1.00.97) third, while Jack Royden (13.35) landed gold in the shot.

It was also quite a weekend for Tonbridge AC. Benedict Cole won the senior men’s 5,000m in 15.23.67, with Charlie Joslin-Allen (4.07.68) taking the 1,500m title.

Henry Marshall (49.41) won under-20 gold in the 400m and there was success in the field in the same age group as Alfie Scopes won the shot (14.60) and discus (48.79). Fraser Gordon (4.20.37) triumphed in the under-15 1,500m and Lewis Swaby (1.70) won high jump gold.

Phoebe Barker (2.14.61) won the under-20 women’s 800m, with gold for Kirsty-Anne Ebbage (39.80) in the under-17 women’s hammer.

Day two also went well for Tonbridge as Sebastian Brooks (16.67) earned gold in the under-20 disability 100m.

Daniel Seagrove (1.58.93) won the 800m and Joe Fuggle (53.04) the 400m hurdles, while Zachary Skinner (6.54) triumphed in the long jump.

Charles Crick (1.59.14) continued the gold run by winning the under-17 800m, with Phoebe Barker (4.33.79) taking the under-20 women’s 1,500m.

There were two more golds for Tonbridge, both in the under-17 women’s age group, as Asha Root (40.50) won the 300m and Keira Jones (26.27) the javelin.
