Tackling traffic, Sodom and Gomorrah!
Political editor Supplements editor Business editor With headlines like “Sex den next to primary school” and ”Staff groped and bullied at toxic ambulance trust” in the latest KM, has our county town become like Sodom and Gomorrah?
Alan Smith’s excellent article on traffic jams particularly caught my eye, however, as at the end of August I have been invited to attend a Maidstone council focus group on traffic emissions in the borough. Alan didn’t refer to this event, but it will discuss:
What residents think of the revised Air Quality Management Area
If the aims of the Low Emission Strategy are relevant and fit for purpose
What people think of the action plan designed to deliver the aims of the strategy
It is obvious from just the letters page I am not alone in my interest in the traffic pollution issue. If What’s On reporter KoL editor anyone does want to know more and contribute to the debate please see – http://www.maidstone.gov.uk/ residents/have-your-say/currentconsultations.
I noticed our two MPs used their columns to cover sport and fruit farming, but at least Mrs Whately alluded to the slightly more contentious issue of Brexit. It will be interesting to see however what contribution the two MPs make to KoL news editor KoL assistant news editor the debate on traffic pollution, its causes and its serious effect on our health and welfare. At the focus group I certainly hope to raise the issue of how the greatly enlarged population and accompanying increased numbers of houses required since the early 2000s have contributed to traffic loadings and associated problems.
