If you can spare an hour the week beginning September 9 contact Margo on 01622 859682 or margo. mcfarlane@btinternet.com PARISH COUNCIL: Lenham will be the first parish to discuss adopting the KCC Highways Temporary Obstructio­ns Policy following a meeting with an engineer, enforcemen­t officer and steward from the Highways and Transporta­tion department. The meeting was organised following several complaints and concerns relating to the placing of A-boards in and around the medieval village square. Councillor­s will accompany officers on a village wide visit to hand out copies of the policy and offer advice to business premises. The visit will take place during the last week in September. Details on 01622 859682. Heritage Group: The group was reinvented from the archaeolog­ical society in 2015 to encourage people who are keen on history. Meetings are at the community centre in the Osborne room on the last Wednesday of each month. Membership is £15 per year or £3 each meeting at the door, includes refreshmen­ts. Members recently undertook a dig in the garden to the rear of Thorneloe solicitors (formally NatWest bank). The items found will be on display at the next scheduled meeting Wednesday, September 27. Christmas lights: If you have enjoyed the annual switching on of the Christmas lights held in the Square during November then consider offering your help to the lighting group. Inscriptio­n records: Join members of the Heritage Group who are undertakin­g a project to record all the inscriptio­ns on the tomb stones in the churchyard of St Marys. Volunteers are needed to help make the task easier with extra hands to help clean the headstones and decipher the wording. A detailed plan of the plots and the informatio­n gathered will be produced by the group. If you are interested in joining the team of bell ringers, simply visit the church on Tuesdays from 7.30pm-9pm. Competitio­n time: Join in the Harvest Fair scarecrow competitio­n being organised by Lenham primary school. The scarecrow must depict a character/scene from a popular family film. The scarecrow should be a maximum 1m wide by 2m tall and should be displayed in your front garden and in place for viewing by 10am on Friday, September 8 and be left in place until 4pm on Saturday, September 16. Tthe public are welStalls in the mall: The Heart of Kent Hospice is hosting pop-up stalls selling a variety of items in the Mall (Chequers) Shopping Centre. The stalls on Friday and Saturday, August 25-26, will be selling new knitted goods, including blankets, dolls clothes, baby knits, dressed dolls, etc plus soft toys and bric-a-brac. Learn to cycle: On Wednesday, August 23 from 5-6.30pm at county hall. Your are never too old to learn to ride a bike. It is run off-road at your pace. The aim is to get you riding, which may require more than one session. You will need a roadworthy bicycle and helmet to take part. All ages welcome to this free session. Enjoyable cricket sessions focussing on the core elements of the sport: throwing, bowling, batting, fielding and catching. Boys and girls welcome. Ages five-10 from 10am-11am; ages 11 plus 11am-noon. Just turn up for these free sessions. Archery tag: Monday mornings until August 28. Archery tag is similar to dodgeball with bows and foam-tipped arrows. Ages eight-12 from 10am-11am; 12-18 from 11am-noon. These are free sessions, just turn up. American football: Free sessions every Wednesday until August 30 at The Cockpit.
