Fatouros’ 97 came off 66 balls and helped his side post 267-5 against Division 1 strugglers Hayes.

The Mote won by 64 runs after four wickets for Matt White saw Hayes held to 203- 8.

Captain Alex Fordham said: “Gerry, by his own admission, has all the talent in the world.

“It’s just a mental thing with him sometimes, although he’s still been pretty consistent.

“The better the bowling, the better he plays – that’s the sort of lad he is.

“He’s fourth or fifth in the league averages and I expect him to have a great end to the season as well.

“He certainly got on with it on Saturday. It didn’t bother him missing out on a century. He’s more about the team and the situation in the game.”

Fordham, whose side moved up to sixth, always felt The Mote had enough runs after the efforts of Fatouros and James Marriott, who made 54.

The skipper added: “The pitch was decent enough, if a bit two-paced.
