STONES READY TO CHANGE THEIR APPROACH AGAINST WREXHAM

Jay Saunders says Maidstone’s home game against Wrexham will be a different challenge to Aldershot. Tuesday night’s match against the Shots was as open as you’ll see in the National League but boss Saunders is expecting a tighter affair on Saturday as Stones go for their first win. He changed shape for Aldershot, switching to a midfield diamond and will now consider his approach for Wrexham. Saunders to do with Taylor on the night.

He added: “Do you know what, I haven’t really spoken to him.

“I’ve barely seen him. I didn’t even speak to him before the game.

“There were a couple of comments on the pitch but it was pretty much down to business.”

Paxman had been substitute­d by the time goalkeeper Lee Worgan and Jai Reason combined to set up Josh Hare’s said: “It’s a different sort of game. They’ll be a different side to what Aldershot are. “All we can do now is plan for that and we’ll try and work out a way to go against them. “We changed shape against Aldershot. I’m not a big fan of the diamond, I just felt it would frustrate them. “I don’t think we get the best out Tom Wraight or Jack Paxman like that, although they worked injury-time goal.

But he enjoyed the moment from the bench as Maidstone earned a point.

He said: “We were all buzzing on the touchline. Worgs is taking a lot of credit for the way he controlled the ball out wide and sent it back out to Jai Reason.

“I’m just chuffed to bits to get a point against a good team and hopefully that’s something we can build on now. It was a good their socks off. We’ll look at Wrexham and no doubt we’ll have to change things but it’s one we can look forward to.” Jamar Loza was due to get the results of a scan on his injured calf yesterday (Wednesday). Saunders is expecting him to be out for a while yet but defender Alex Finney (groin) could return when Maidstone go to Tonbridge in the Kent Senior Cup second round on Tuesday. Stuart Lewis completes game. It’s always good to play against the likes of Aldershot, especially with the start to the season they’ve had, in front of a good crowd.

“It was a tough game, they worked us hard and we had to dig in but we’ll take a point.
