K Sports men started their Kent Open Premier B campaign with a 7-0 home win against Gore Court 4ths. They went ahead inside three minutes when Ben Newmarch finished off some slick passing, a lead doubled when Matt Sharp found himself in space to score. The goals kept coming in the first half and Mike Nock smashed home and then made it a double with a penalty corner drag flick. Paul Cook added a fifth before half-time and goals from Dave Wood – who also claimed four assists – and James Clarkely rounded off the scoring. The 2nds enjoyed an 8-1 success against Ashford 6ths. The first goal came from a penalty corner as James Dench showed composure to strike home. The second goal was a solo effort from Nick Shread. Howard Goacher set up Shread for his second and then, just before half-time, Dench linked up with Shread, who completed his hat-trick to make it 4-0. Shread turned provider to Dench for the fifth but Ashford responded with a goal from a penalty corner. Another Shread goal made it 6-1, a run and interchange saw Gavin Fisher get a deserved goal and Darren Body completed the tally to cap an impressive team display. The 3rds won 2-0 against Gillingham Anchorians. Man-of-the-match Haydn O’Shea set up Neil Mitchell to score in the second half, an advantage doubled when Scott Montgomery converted a penalty stroke. In Division 3 of the Kent Women’s League, K Sports lost 1-0 at Gore Court 2nds. Jo Fowler, Shona McAllan and Sharon McAllan were all thwarted by the hosts in the first half. After the break, Danni Nichols and Fowler both impressed but Court scored from a melee in the D to take the points. The 2nds drew 1-1 with Marden 3rds in Division 5. Charlie Frampton made some impressive charges on the right and was fed some great balls from Kat Lichfield. Emma Thorpe had a fine game in defence but it was goalkeeper Danni Nichols who was player-of-thematch. She made six saves on the bounce at one stage and was only beaten when left unsighted. The equaliser came when Karen Swinson hit a shot, with Sharon McAllan getting the final touch.
