A Maidstone mum is warning lone women drivers to be wary after she was followed for more than 15 miles by a man who kept trying to get her to pull over.

Joanna Flynn, 30, was left terrified by the ordeal, which happened as she drove home from Tenterden to Maidstone with her two daughters aged 11 and 12. It is the latest in a spate of incidents where women have reported being followed in cars.

She said: “The guy, in a black Corsa, flashed me constantly and wanted me to pull over. I shook my head at him and carried on driving. I even tried driving through back lanes in Headcorn to try losing him but he continued to follow me. I was absolutely petrified.”

At that point, the mum-of-four called her husband Rick, who came to meet her in a layby. When the man following her pulled over too, Mr Flynn confronted him. The driver of the Corsa claimed it was a case of mistaken identity.

She has since told her story as a warning on social media, which has been shared nearly 2,000 times.

“I’ve had quite a few messages from people saying the same type of thing had happened to them,” she said.

Police have been alerted about the incident, which happened at around 11am last Monday.

The previous day, Louise Moore was followed from the Isle of Sheppey to Maidstone, by two men in a black Audi. She moved over when they flashed their lights at her, thinking they were trying to overtake. But the car then pulled in behind her and tailed her all the way home, only speeding off when her partner came out to meet her.

She said: “They wouldn’t let any car get behind me or in front of them. It has been a frightening ordeal.”

Police advise anyone concerned about an unmarked vehicle that is trying to stop them, whose occupants are not police officers, to call 999.
