River path is for everyone to enjoy

-

Political editor Supplements editor Business editor I refer to your article on the newly renovated river towpath in last week’s edition of the Kent Messenger.

The cyclists’ point of view has been well covered, but I should like point out the general views of the other people using the path.

First of all I refer to the comment made by Angelo Martinez: “There is a section where cyclists are advised to dismount and walk their cycles, but obviously this is What’s On reporter KoL editor not going to happen.”

I wonder if this is the section from the Malta, Allington, towards Maidstone? This has not been renovated but has retained its original charm.

Parts of this path are narrow and there is a section where cyclists are asked to dismount. This signage is there for safety reasons!

On August Bank Holiday Monday, we decided to walk part of this path from Aylesford to Maidstone. KoL news editor KoL assistant news editor

As it was a really hot day, there were plenty of people around.

We spoke to some runners and walkers about the path and we were united in the fact the cyclists believe they should take priority and we should keep out of their way.

It is a beautiful part that is free to everyone and, as such, everyone should be allowed to enjoy it. Wendy King East Malling
