PCSO Adlington reported that he was covering five parishes and due to the PCSO vacancies was unlikely to be able to attend meetings and PCSO’s no longer produce crime statistics. If issues come up in the parish he would contact the parish council by phone or email. He did inform the office that there had been issues with cars, late at night and now early in the morning revving up in the Tesco car park. The cars were parked near the recycling units. The police had received many complaints and residents supplied some vehicle registration details for a group of vehicles that appeared at about 11pm. The vehicle owners had been spoken to but reports had been received that vehicles were in the car park at about 2am. The store manager had been contacted and up until 11pm had arranged for a ‘staff walk around’ to move on any vehicles but after this time does not have sufficient staff to keep an eye on the car park. CCTV does not cover the recycling area and understandably residents do not wish to go over to the car park at that time. At the PCSO’s request a letter had been sent to the store manager asking for gates to the main car park to be re instated and locked overnight. The parish council received a letter from Assistant Inspector Rachel Cumberland about the changes to the PCSO coverage of parishes. Members expressed disappointment that PCSOs would not be attending parish council meetings or providing crime statistics. The parish office was asked to produce monthly crime statistics for the agenda. Budget: It was agreed to approve the expenditure on a proposed safer crossing point for Grovewood Drive North. Beechen Hall extension, the report on the work of the estates committee was received and noted and it was agreed to extend the meeting room and this be progressed, . On September 14 between 1am3am, a padlock was smashed and a door damaged to gain entry to farm buildings. A number of items were stolen, including chain saws and an air rifle, nail guns and a kango. On September 19, two metal gates were stolen from a property on Chart Hill Road. The annual inspection of the playground equipment had taken place and the report was sent to members. There were a few minor things that needed attention and had been addressed by Cllrs Forknall and Peter Underdown but overall the findings were good. The Rotary International Organisation helps and funds the eradication of polio across the world. Their symbol is the crocus and this year, one of the three clubs in Maidstone has purchased 5,000 bulbs and is looking for suitable places to plant them and has offered some to the parish council. It was agreed that the council would apply for some to be planted on the village green. Cllr Fitzgerald reported that he had been given 500 crocus bulbs by Dawn Patrol so if the council was unsuccessful with its application, there would still be a colourful display to look forward to in the spring. Cllr McLoughlin reported had attended a planning training session at the borough council but had not been very impressed. They are considering using professionals for future sessions. Cllr Underdown had attended the joint Police/Neighbourhood Watch forum which was mostly taken up with the reorganisation of the police and the PCSOs. Four of these had gone on to other posts so there was a shortage which was being recruited. Cllrs Underdown and FitzGerald attended the East of Maidstone Bus meeting which unfortunately did not include Arriva who didn’t turn up. The main discussions concerning Chart Sutton were about the 59 bus which is regularly late and sometimes doesn’t turn up at all. The bus contracts were due to be retendered shortly.
