Penalty stroke rescues a point

Sutton Valence 1sts dominated Worthing but had to settle for a 3-3 draw in Kent/ Sussex Regional 1.

Valence hit the bar early on but were two down before Kirkham set up McVarish before half-time.

Stanford levelled, only for Worthing to go back in front from a short corner but Kirkham rescued a point with a penalty stroke.

Valence 2nds claimed their first point of the Kent Open Premier A season with a 1-1 draw at Gillingham Anchorians.

Valence soaked up rare home attacks until Andy Lee switched off, leaving a youngster unmarked at the back post.

Time was ticking by when second-half pressure paid off, Richard Turnill playing a short corner to Wilsher who teed up young Alex Stamp for a sweet finish.

Chris Sheldon scored a last-gasp winner as the 3rds beat Deal 2-1 in Kent Open Premier C.

An excellent series of passes led to the opening goal for Pete Rogers at the back post. A determined Deal side levelled after the break but Sheldon beat the keeper at the second attempt to earn victory.

Valence 4ths’ change in formation paid off in a Kent Open Division 4 7-0 win at New Beccehamians.

Two up at half-time, their superior fitness, positional play and teamwork paid off. Man-of-the-match Dylan Queen and Rob Cockayne scored twice, with Eion Robinson, Alex Stanford and James Abraham also on target.

Sutton Valence vets won Tunbridge Wells Grasshoppers.

It took them a while to remember how to play on grass – they’re more used to astroturf – but Geoff Bell, Julian Mills, Pat Kyiang and Bob Bartlett got them going.

There were two goals for man-of-thematch David Glenister, with Lyndon Davies, Bartlett and Rupert Humphrey completing the tally. 5-3 at
