Larkfield in strong show

Larkfield SC held their own against stiff competitio­n in the National Arena Swimming League.

The squad (pictured left) went to Horsham in Sussex for the second gala, taking on swimmers from Eastbourne, Herne Bay, Beacon, Redhill & Reigate, Edenbridge and Shepway.

Larkfield fared well, including wins for Lyanna Gore (girls’ 10/11yrs backstroke, 39.95sec) and Cameron Mathurin (boys’ 10/11yrs 50m butterfly, 39.15).

Second places went to Hannah Shibli (girls’ 10/11yrs 50m butterfly, 37.75), Jacob Payne (boys’ 10/11yrs 50m backstroke, 40.43) and Andrew Gore (boys’ 100m backstroke, 1min14.87sec).

There were third places for Mia Cotton (girls’ 13/under 100m backstroke, 1.20.32), Callum Burtally (boys’ 15/under 100m butterfly, 1.15.41), Jasper Nobes (boys’ 10/11yrs 50m freestyle, 36.59), Rudy Strachan, Jasper Nobes, Jacob Payne and Cameron Mathurin (9/11 4x50m freestyle relay, 2.27.64; 4x50m medley relay, 2.54.75), Andrew Gore, Milo Strachan, Dominic Traube and Finley Courtier (13/under 4x50m medley relay, 2.27.10) and Nick Rowe (men’s 200m IM, 2.21.74).

The week before, Larkfield competed in session five of the Medway Championsh­ips at Medway Park.

There were silver medals for Harry Lam (boys’ 13yrs 100m freestyle, 1.05.84) and Jacob Payne (boys’ 11yrs IM, 1.25.29.

Bronze went to Oliver Moore (boys’ 12yrs 100m breaststro­ke, 1.27.61), Jasper Nobes (boys’ 10yrs 50m breaststro­ke, 53.88) and the EG Maple 16x1 free team (2.07.98). Jessica Bonner, Dominic Traube, Lyanna Gore, Rudy Strachan, Dominic Percy, Hannah Shibli and Amelia Allen also made finals.
