K Sports Gillingham

Bailey Pearce scored the winner against his old club as K Sports came from 2- 0 down to upset Hollands & Blair in the Kent Senior Trophy first round. It was a sweet moment for Pearce as Division 1 high-fliers Sports beat top-flight strugglers Blair 3-2 on Saturday. The hosts finished with eight men but take nothing away from Sports who levelled through Sam Reed and a Caine Smith penalty before Pearce struck. Sports boss Kris Browning said: “Blair are struggling and I’m not surprised with the way they behave. “Bailey was told he was no longer wanted there last season, so he enjoyed getting the winner.” K Sports are out to upset another Premier Division side when they travel to Canterbury, who groundshare with Deal, in the FA Vase first round on Saturday. Browning said: “We’ve had Canterbury watched and they’re a good side but we’ll give it our best. “I fancy our chances of maybe nicking a draw and getting them back to our place.” K Sports were at Snodland last night (Wednesday) and host Lydd on Tuesday, subject to an FA Vase replay. Snodland are out of the Kent Senior Trophy after a 3-2 defeat at Premier Division Tunbridge Wells. Dave Sherwood cancelled out Wells early opener but they were 3-1 down by the time Tom Clackett added a late second. Town visit Holmesdale on Saturday.

Under-18 Division 1: Lenham Gillingham chairman Paul Scally is closing in on a new manager and Steve Lovell hopes it’s him. Ahead of Tuesday night’s game against League 1 leaders Wigan, which the Gills drew 1-1 under caretaker boss Lovell, Mr Scally had narrowed his shortlist down to four people. The Gills have been without a permanent manager since parting company with Ady Pennock last month. Former Stevenage and Preston boss Graham Westley was in the Priestfield crowd, as was ex-Crystal Palace caretaker manager Keith Millen. Both have been linked to the job. Westley spent the week as the bookies’ odds-on favourite. Lovell (pictured right) has taken four points from two games against high-flying opposition and hopes a decision is made soon – one way or another. He said: “I think something might have to be done, sooner rather than later, because as players and coaches you want to be settled. “You want to know yourself where you are going and what you are doing. “It is mainly the boys. I want it to happen for them so they can focus on one person and that Wanderers 4 Larkfield 0, K.Sports Utd 5 Istead Utd Colts 1. Speaking before their midweek draw at Barnet, Evans said: “I had a fantastic meeting with the chairman and the chief executive, and they wouldn’t wish for anyone else to lead this campaign forwards.

“You don’t turn things around by talking to the media and allowing yourself to get distracted with other things around you, you have to keep focused.”

Gillingham, who won 1- 0 at Peterborough last Saturday, welcome Northampton to Priestfield on Saturday (3pm) in League 1.
