MEDWAY MAIDSTONE

-

Maidstone were well beaten by London 1 South promotion hopefuls Medway. The visitors failed to score a point against their local rivals who remain on course for the play-offs in second place. An early Sam Sharpe try, converted by former Aylesford man Dan Harvey, set the tone as Medway ran out convincing winners. Maidstone knew they were in for a tough day as the Medway pack drove them off their own ball in successive scrums and the pressure told with Tom Beamount adding the second score, Harvey with the extras. The Stones enjoyed their best period of the game over the next 10 minutes, camped on Medway’s line, with Ben Massey and Lewis Stimpson particularly dangerous. But good defence kept them out, even when reduced to 14 men, and Medway went on to lead 28-0 at the break following converted tries from Ben Dance and Sharpe. Medway were soon on the attack at the start of the second half and with Maidstone losing Lucien Morosan to the sin-bin, the hosts extended their lead with a try from Harvey. Alfie Orris then fielded a poor clearance and scored a converted try under the posts and with Medway in total control, Dance and Beaumont combined to put Harvey away for another seven points. Doug Ebanks’ try, converted by Harvey, made it 54-0 and Orris completed the scoring. Maidstone finish the season at Old Colfeians this Saturday, the hosts needing to win to have any chance of staying up.
