KENT CRICKET

-

Marcus Stoinis hailed the brilliant Kent bowling performance against Hampshire as one of the best he’s been part of.

The Australian all-rounder took 4-17 as Hampshire were bowled out for 88 on Friday at the Ageas Bowl giving Spitfires a 51-run win.

He said: “That was a good victory, one of the best bowling performance victories that I have been a part of.

“We thought we were a touch below par but were still just about in the game. We also knew we had a good bowling attack and were confident.

“I kept saying to the boys I knew this was a good competition but every batter that kept coming out was a good one.”

Kent were restricted to 139-7 from their 20 overs after a good bowling display from Hampshire. Heino Kuhn top scored with 29 and Stoinis made 26. But needing 140 to win, Hampshire crumbled. They lost their first three wickets for seven runs – inside 14 balls – and the innings continued on a downward curve.

Adam Milne (3-14) was the early destroyer as he pocketed two scalps in two balls to see off James Vince and Sam Northeast, before Stoinis got rid of Colin Munro and Rilee Rossouw.

Wickets continued to fall and just three Hampshire players made double figures as they were all out in 16.1 overs.

Stoinis added: “It feels good. You just want to contribute to a team and it is good to get some wins. “MMe and Adam know eac ch other pretty well and d are getting to kno ow each other even bet tter.

“AAs overseas players it is important to con ntribute and work tog gether and influence the e games as much as we e can.”
