Man ar­rested over spilt milk scam

A man is due to ap­pear in court, ac­cused of try­ing to de­fraud a su­per­mar­ket us­ing a spilt milk scam.

Po­lice were called on Satur­day to re­ports of a sus­pi­cious in­ci­dent at a shop in Tovil, Maid­stone.

It is al­leged a cus­tomer pre­sented a false in­voice to staff for dam­age he claimed had been caused to his car by a faulty milk con­tainer.

The man is said to have ap­proached the store seek­ing to be re­im­bursed.

Of­fi­cers from the Kent Spe­cial Con­stab­u­lary at­tended the scene and Richard Lyt­tle, 50, from The Vale, Brent­ford was ar­rested.

He was sub­se­quently charged with fraud by false rep­re­sen­ta­tion and bailed to ap­pear be­fore Maid­stone Mag­is­trates’ Court for a hear­ing on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 26.

Dis­trict Ch Insp Mark Hedges said: “In this case, the ac­tions of the spe­cial con­sta­bles helped us to promptly ar­rest a sus­pect in con­nec­tion with an al­leged fraud.

“They are a very ef­fec­tive team and work closely with lo­cal of­fi­cers to keep our com­mu­ni­ties safe.”
