Man arrested over spilt milk scam
A man is due to appear in court, accused of trying to defraud a supermarket using a spilt milk scam.
Police were called on Saturday to reports of a suspicious incident at a shop in Tovil, Maidstone.
It is alleged a customer presented a false invoice to staff for damage he claimed had been caused to his car by a faulty milk container.
The man is said to have approached the store seeking to be reimbursed.
Officers from the Kent Special Constabulary attended the scene and Richard Lyttle, 50, from The Vale, Brentford was arrested.
He was subsequently charged with fraud by false representation and bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court for a hearing on Friday, October 26.
District Ch Insp Mark Hedges said: “In this case, the actions of the special constables helped us to promptly arrest a suspect in connection with an alleged fraud.
“They are a very effective team and work closely with local officers to keep our communities safe.”
