Change to ben­e­fits due next month

Univer­sal credit is less than a month away for Maid­stone ben­e­fit claimants.

Rolling six dif­fer­ent ben­e­fits into one pay­ment, the change has been met with crit­i­cism in places where it has al­ready started, with some claimants fac­ing de­lays in pay­ment.

From Novem­ber 22, in­come sup­port, job­seek­ers’ al­lowance, em­ploy­ment and sup­port al­lowance, hous­ing ben­e­fit, child tax credit and work­ing tax credit will all come in lump sum.

Cit­i­zens Ad­vice Maid­stone is set­ting up a new ser­vice to help claimants with the change.

Chief of­fi­cer Bonny Mal­ho­tra, said: “For peo­ple re­ceiv­ing ben­e­fits the roll-out of Univer­sal Credit has brought chal­lenges, such as de­layed pay­ments and a com­pli­cated ap­pli­ca­tion process.
