Large-scale development has scattered cranes across Maidstone, with hundreds of new homes due in the coming years.

Reservations for some of the 502 homes at Springfield Park off Royal Engineers’ Road will be accepted from tomorrow (Friday), with prices starting at £199,995 for a one bedroom apartment and £331,000 for a three-bed flat. Once complete, the Weston Homes scheme will include a 17-storey tower block which will become Maidstone’s tallest building.

Next door is the Springfield Mill development. The old paper-making plant is set to be demolished and replaced with 295 homes.

Elsewhere in the town centre, passers-by can see flats tak- ing shape at Wren’s Cross, the former home of Kent Police on Upper Stone Street.

A new five storey building will hold 66 flats, while another six will be held in a third block. Homes there are not expected to become available at Wren’s Cross until 2019.
