Warnings about a woman who allegedly tried to snatch a little girl outside a supermarket were circulating on social media.

An online poster took to Facebook to claim her friend’s daughter was first followed and then approached by an older woman outside Tesco in Grovewood Drive North, Grove Green.

The two-year-old was report- edly invited to go with the woman but left after being spotted by the mother.

Police confirmed reports of a ‘suspicious incident’ which happened at around 12pm on Monday, October 15.

A spokesman for the force said: “It is reported that a woman approached a two-year-old child who appeared to be on her own.

“The woman asked the child where her mother was.

“The girl pointed at her mother who was close by and the child ran over to her and they left the shop.

“No physical contact was made with the child; the incident was reported to police because the woman’s behaviour was deemed strange.”
