Debate on garden village plans
The controversial application for a new “garden village” at Detling Airfield will be the subject of debate at a meeting of Thurnham Parish Council this month.
A joint application from Binbury Park Estates and EJ Mackelden and Sons seeks permission for 1,750 houses, 46,000 sq metres of commercial space, a hotel, a shopping centre, a primary school and a park-and-ride site.
The outline application also proposes a 50-hectare country park, based around the historic Binbury motte and bailey castle, currently difficult to access by the public.
Major roadworks on the A249 will be needed to facilitate access to the new estate.
The majority of the land falls within Thurnham and the parish council will meet at the Marriott Tudor Park Hotel in Bearsted at 7.30pm on Monday, November 19 to consider the application.
Full details of the application can be viewed using the reference number 18/504836.
