Men arrested over HGV break-in

A lorry driver sounded his horn as a group of men tried to break into his vehicle overnight at Maidstone Services.

The man saw people causing deliberate damage to the curtain side of his lorry as he was parked at the facilities, near Junction 8 of the M20 at around 3.15am last Tuesday.

After he sounded his horn a group of men fled empty handed and left the scene in a car.

Police were alerted and the suspects were subsequent­ly stopped in the Grays area of Essex having passed through the Dartford Crossing.

A search of the car led to various items being seized including a metal bar and a knife.

The suspects, a 46-year-old man from Billericay, a 30-year-old man from Grays and a man aged 40 from Tilbury, were arrested on suspicion of theft and going equipped for theft.

They were all subsequent­ly released pending further investigat­ion.
