Win a magnificent seventh

-

K Sports doubled their lead straight after half-time and, now Maidstone Ladies are five points clear at the top of East Hockey Division 1 South after making it seven wins from seven on Saturday. They had to come from behind against Bishop’s Stortford but eventually clinched a 2-1 victory. Maidstone were on top in the first 10 minutes, but a wayward pass was punished with a shot past goalkeeper Becky Ward. They kept pushing forward with Claire Weddle, Lesley Price, Emily Bush and Rachel Davies all to the fore. Maidstone were awarded a short corner before half-time but Price’s shot hit the foot of Katie Gibbons. However, their determination was rewarded at the start of the second half when Weddle ran across the circle and slotted home the equaliser. Stortford tested the Maidstone defence but they held firm and when Price collected a pass from Gibbons late on, her shot found the left-hand corner to extend Maidstone’s 100% record. The ladies’ 2nds started their Kent Premier Division game against Blackheath & Old Elthamians one player short. It proved costly as Blackheath scored early and it turned out to be the only goal. Maidstone looked better with a full complement but Vic O’Reilly’s shot, which hit the post, was the closest they came to equalising. The 3rds lost to Sevenoaks 6ths in Division 3 by the same score. Maidstone captain Ellie Doherty had a good game and Helen Reeves was chosen as player-of-the-match.
