All wel­come to play in the park

A new play area fea­tur­ing in­no­va­tive swings, round­abouts and sen­sory equip­ment is be­ing cre­ated in Mote Park.

The spot will also fea­ture a rope tree climber, nest swing and a walk trail with low-level ac­cess.

A T-Rex carv­ing will be suit­able for chil­dren with vis­ual im­pair­ments.

It opens in Spring and has been ap­proved by a body called Plan In­clu­sive Play Ar­eas (PiPA) recog­nis­ing it is fully in­clu­sive, of­fers sen­sory play and will be safe space for those who have ex­tra needs.

Cllr Paul Harper, chair­man of the Her­itage, Cul­ture and Leisure Com­mit­tee, said: “Se­cur­ing PiPA ap­proval is a great en­dorse­ment of the ef­forts be­ing made to en­sure the park meets the needs of ev­ery­one who uses it.”

The new play­ground is part of Maid­stone coun­cil’s £4.3 mil­lion re­de­vel­op­ment pro­gramme for Mote Park. This will also see the open­ing of a new Ad­ven­ture Zone fea­tur­ing high ropes, a climb­ing wall, mini golf and seg­way hire, along with a new vis­i­tor cen­tre and café.
