Fundraising is all plain ab-sailing

-

Brave-hearted fundraisers from across the region gathered at one of Maidstone’s highest landmarks on Saturday for a daring abseil.

Organised by the KM Charity Team, the event took place at Thomas Place, with participants descending from the top of the 100-foot landmark in James Whatman Way.

A total of 24 people from as far afield as Chesham in Buckinghamshire and Northiam in East Sussex took part for 10 charities. The County Town was represented by Martin Pember, who raised money for disability charity Space 2 Be Me, and Abdul Mutalib, who was one of a seven-person team from Kent law firm Martin Tolhurst taking part for North Kent Mind.

And Kris Healey, Kristy Nicolson, Gemma Payne, Lesley Legg and James Leigh all took part for West Malling charity Spadework. The organisation provides support and opportunities to adults with learning and other disabilities.

Event coordinator, Dominic Comins, said: “Many congratulations to all those fearless individuals who took part in our winter abseil.

“The money they raised will make a real difference to their chosen charities and the people and communities that they serve.”

The next KM Charity Team challenge event is the Maidstone heat of the KM Big Charity Quiz, which takes place at Maidstone Leisure Centre in Mote Park on Friday, November 8.

Tables for teams of up to eight cost £65, but there is a £10 discount when you book using the code KMNEWS19. See www. KmBigQuiz.co.uk for more.
