The family of a student allegedly murdered on a night out have hit back at a rapper’s apology. Andre Bent, 21, was fatally stabbed in the chest in Jubilee Square, Maidstone hours after MoStack performed at Gallery nightclub in August. A 16-year-old has been charged with murder.

Since then the north London musician, real name Montell Daley, has been silent on Twitter, but returned to social media last week.

On Thursday he tweeted a selfie with the caption “Just been at home and gym tryna(sic) better my self” and on Sunday he sent out a message to followers.

It read: “My prayers and condolences to the family of the young man who lost his life and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

“I’ve been praying for you all. My mums been praying for you all.

“My thoughts are with the family through this difficult time.

“I apologise if my silence has offended anyone. I took a break from social media for various reasons.”

Andre Bent’s cousin Louis Annan wrote: “This “apology” did absolutely nothing for us as a family. You will be held accountable for your actions (or lack thereof) and next time you feel like speaking up on the situation make sure you say my cousin’s name - Andre Bent.” A total of 13 people have been arrested in relation to the violence in Jubilee Square on August 25.

Nine people - including the murder accused - will appear at the Old Bailey on Monday. Responding to Mo Stack’s earlier tweet, Andre Bent’s girlfriend Maria Leila said on Sunday: “I’m glad you’ve been at home and at the gym trying to better yourself, must be nice, I hope you’re ok. I had to bury my boyfriend two days ago.”
