Jonathan Whittall returned to form for Medway & Maidstone with a third place at the penultimate fixture of the Kent Fitness League.

That finish at Blean Woods, Canterbury maintained his challenge for a medal in the men’s overall competition. Whittall was joined in the top10 finishers by Dan St Martin (sixth) and Chris Rampling (ninth). Neill Wright (12th, first M45) with another strong run sealed the M45 title with a race to spare. Gareth Williams (28th, first M55) continued his battle at the top of the M55 standings with Alun Rodgers (32nd, second M55), which sees the two athletes go head-to-head in a race-off for the title at the final race of the season. In the M65 category Paul McAuliffe again led the way, finishing 81st overall, winning the M65 season title with one race remaining. Strong races throughout the men’s team saw another victory, maintaining their perfect record for the season

Emily Hale made a welcome return for the ladies’ team and was straight back to form, finishing as fourth lady. Taryne McPherson (ninth lady, third F45) gave another strong performance which all-but-guarantees a medal in the F45 competition.

She was closely followed by Chloe Hammond (12th lady, third F35) which has brought her into contention for a medal within the F35 category.

The ladies’ team again suffered from the lack of a F55 athlete, finishing ninth overall.

The combined results saw M&M finish first for the second time this season, going level on points at the top of the overall season standings.

The season decider for the league is on February 20 at Knole Park, Sevenoaks.
