Axell wins with time to spare

A personal-best time of 19min28sec saw Will Axell lead a field of 200 runners at Mote Park’s parkrun last Saturday. Jerome Moisan was second in 20.21 with Craig Murray running a PB of 21.02 to take third. Charlotte Bates was the leading lady in 22.13 with Bridget Weekes (FV 60-64) producing a PB of 23.53 to finish second and also top the age-graded list with a score of 84.86%. Third place went to Catherine Hodges in 23.59.

At Maidstone, Joseph Green moved up from third last week to take top spot in 18.27. Ryan Worsley was second in 19.47 with Stephen Payne (MV 65-69) finishing third in 19.57, giving him the top age-graded position with 84.88% from 299 runners.

At the other end of the age scale the ladies’ race went to Elena Vela-Castro (JW 11-14) in a PB of 22.23, ahead of Christine Spree (23.47) and Bridget Ostrehan (24.00).

There was similar progress at Malling for Ian Reid, who moved from third to fastest with a time of 18.59. He was also the top agegraded performer with a score of 80.25% from a field of 252.

With a PB of 19.50, Jack Miles (JM15-17) took second place ahead of Ollie Knight in 20.17.

The ladies’ leader was Claire Stone in 22.10, with Claire Lowe moving up a place from last week to finish second in 22.59, ahead of Teresa Grainger-Francova in third with 23.46.

The final race of the Kent Cross-Country League took place at Norman Park in Bromley last Saturday with Mote Runners well represente­d.

Hanka Eichler-Gregory (39.50), Tracey Dennis (40.47) and Jen McLoud (42.51) competed in the senior women’s race and Dave Grunfeld (MV 70-74) timed 47.36 in the senior men’s race.
