‘I can hear them crawling around and rustling all night. I’m completely exhausted and drained’

A mum says she is at breaking point after three years of mice terrorising her in her home. Cassie Locke, who lives in Park Wood, Maidstone, has been dealing with an infestation since 2020, and says she sees up to 10 of the rodents a day.

The 31-year-old said: “I’m at breaking point if I’m honest. “I have a massive phobia of mice and I’m completely exhausted. There’s a hole in my bedroom right next to where I sleep and I can hear them crawling around and rustling all night.

“I don’t end up getting to sleep until three or four in the morn

ing and I have to get up again at 7am to take the kids to school. “I’m completely exhausted and drained.”

The mum-of-two first starting noticing mouse droppings around three years ago, and contacted her housing association Golding Homes straight away.

However, she claims she was told it was down to her to deal with, which she tried to do for a year – but it got more severe. She explained: “I’ve tried everything, I put down five traps just yesterday and within a couple of minutes three of them went off at the same time.”

She contacted Golding

Homes again which sent out pest control – however she says they weren't able to do much. She said: “I feel like I’m just being fed lies.

“I’m worried for my kids’ health, we’ve also had untreated mould for the same amount of time and my daughter has breathing problems because of it.

“It’s getting to a point where I’ve just had enough. My housing officer isn’t answering any of my calls, I feel like I’m constantly chasing them.”

Cassie said the whole ordeal

has taken a large toll on her mental health.

“I’m completely exhausted and drained,” she said. “I’ve booked a doctor’s appointment because I’m just so unhappy where I am.

“I was sitting in my house crying yesterday I’m petrified all the time I don’t like things that crawl.

“I’m not comfortable in my own home whatsoever, they’re in my bedroom, my children’s bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen – everywhere.”

Terry Spillard, assistant director of customers at Golding Homes, said: “We’re really sorry for the problems Ms Locke’s been experiencing and are committed to resolving them so she can live comfortably in her home.

“We’ve visited her home on previous occasions to address and treat these issues, but now they’ve reoccurred we’re arranging further visits for pest control and a damp and mould inspection.”

He added: “We’ll continue to work with her until these issues are resolved.
