THINGS ON THE UP FOR RIDE

-

Remember shoegazing? If your memory needs refreshing, back in the early 1990s, a sub genre of indie and alternative rock emerged in the UK with obscured vocals and special effects - many which involved looking down at effects pedals for the musicians involved. Their downward looking stance was nicknamed shoegazing and it stuck. For the Oxford quartet Ride, their debut album was considered to be one of the important albums of the genre.

Original members Andy Bell, Mark Gardener, Laurence “Loz” Colbert and Steve Queralt moved on in 1996 to a new line-up, resulting from a shake-up whichh saw Andy Bell become the bassist with Oasis.

Ride meanwhile reunited in 2001 and in 2014 came a second reunion.

Now fans of the genre, and those discovering it for the first time, can enjoy an intimate acoustic concert by the band at Dreamland’s Hall By the Sea on Friday, November 30, marking the 30th anniversary of their formation.

The Margate gig includes support from American singer Piney Gir.

For tickets at £22.50 plus a booking fee, to the show, visit dreamland. co.uk.
