Katrina’s still a ray of sunshine

-

She was Walking on Sunshine in the 80s and shining a light when she won Eurovision in the 90s. Now Katrina Leskanich of Katrina and the Waves is walking her own way as she promotes her new Christmas single, I Can’t Give You Anything But Love.

Walking On Sunshine was a Top 10 hit around the world in 1985 before the Grammy nominated band went on to become the UK’S last winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 with Shine a Light. Katrina went solo after their Eurovision success when the band split. Her Christmas single, which was released earlier this month, is her first ever Christmas release.

It is a tuneful song from the 1920s which comes with a jazzy guitar solo with a free form introduction - and an unexpected sweet message for the special time of year.

She’ll be performing it and more of her new material exclusively at the Astor Theatre in Deal on Friday, November 30, one of only three dates in the UK. She’ll be supported on the night by local musician Koz Self from Deal.

With his sensitive voice and gentle acoustic guitar, his music promises to take listeners on a melodic journey.

Drawing inspiration from traditional folk and modern folk artists, his songs have been likened to Elliot Smith and Ben Howard and describe the trials and tribulations of modern life with a wistful melancholy.

The pair perform at the theatre in Deal this weekend from 7.30pm. For tickets, which cost £17 for standing, £20 for limited auditorium seating and £20 for balcony seating, visit theastor.org.
