Ashford Town

ASHFORD Town failed badly with the bat on Saturday as they slipped to a second successive defeat in Kent League, Division 3.

Chasing 142 to win, Ashford came up well short. They were bowled out for just 102 by Old Colfeians and lost by 39 runs.

Sam Kennett’s side lost the toss but they made a bright start, taking two quick wickets to leave Colfeians reeling at 9-2.

The visitors rallied and reached 71-4 before losing three wickets for the addition for just one run.

Steve Tanner was the pick of the Ashford bowlers, taking 4-48 from his 14 overs. However, Colfeians skipper Alex Lorimer hit 42 down the order to help his side reach a more respectable 141.

Ashford reached 35 without loss in their run-chase but things then started to go wrong. They lost two quick wickets and then went from 52-3 to 59-5 as Colfeians took control.

Opener Luke Reeves contributed 56 not out but he quickly ran out of partners. Ashford’s last four wickets fell for just nine runs and the innings came to an end in the 39th over.

Jack Warren (4-16) and Lorimer ( 3- 27) did much of the damage for Colfeians and Reeves was the only Town player to reach double figures.

Ashford sit eighth ahead of Saturday’s trip to second-bottom Harvel.

ASHFORD 2nds lost a low-scoring game at Bexleyheath by 13 runs.

They bowled the home side out for 136, with opening bowler Lee Smith picking up 3-39.

In reply, though, they were all out for 123. MOMENT TO SAVOUR: Ashford’s Steve Tanner celebrates having BJ Pham of Old Colfeians caught by Ben Ealham on Saturday. Tanner was Ashford’s most successful bowler, finishing with 4-48
