BEN Price scored a half-century to help Tenterden record their first win of the season on Saturday.

Tenterden returned home from St Lawrence & Highland Court on the back of a comfortable nine-wicket victory in Kent League, Division 1.

The visitors won the toss and put St Lawrence in to bat. They recovered from the loss of two early wickets to reach 73-2 before Tenterden really got among them. Seven wickets fell for the addition of just 15 runs as Tyler Griffin (4-30) and Alistair Neale (3-22) filled their boots.

St Lawrence were eventually all out for just 101 in the 51st over. They needed to make early inroads to have any chance and they did just that when Tenterden skipper Andrew Crawford went for a first-ball duck.

A second-wicket stand of 105 between Price (55) and Christopher Vernon (49) eased Tenterden to a comprehensive victory. They needed only 15 overs to chase down the St Lawrence score.

Crawford said: “It was so important to get a win and get some momentum. St Lawrence have had a pretty average start to the season and we wanted to take advantage.

“We bowled and fielded really well. Alistair and Tyler bowled tight, wicket-taking spells.”

PAUL Brann made 104 for Tenterden 2nds but they went on to lose to Bexley by six wickets in the Premier Division 2nd XI.

Brann’s century helped Tenterden post 206-6 in their 50 overs.

Bexley skipper Daniel Haley then hit 110 from 102 balls to help his side reach 207-6 with almost three overs to spare.

Mark Baker (3-58) was the pick of the Tenterden bowlers.
