I beat cancer and lost weight

-

A mother who beat cancer twice found that overcoming the illness gave her the determination to lose three stone in weight.

Joyce Pawsey, 51, had already joined Slimming World when she was diagnosed with cancer of the lining of the womb in July 2011.

Mrs Pawsey had a hysterectomy but was then told she had cancer in her lymph glands and was forced to endure daily radiotherapy for six weeks.

In September 2012 she was given the all clear from the cancer and within a year she had rejoined the weight loss group, meeting at The Wyvern School in Ashford, and was determined to get fit.

Husband Brian has been lending a hand by cooking healthy meals and his wife’s weight has dropped from 17 stone to 13 stone.

Mrs Pawsey said: “As far as dieting, there was always an obstacle I could put in the way – Christmas, holidays, birthdays.

“I walked into my first Joyce Pawsey before losing weight and, right, with husband Brian, whose healthy cooking helped her diet Slimming World meeting feeling very nervous of what the scales would say and what others would think but I plucked up the courage to go in and never looked back.

“I am still on my weight loss journey but I am three stone lighter now than I was in May and, with the support of my fantastic group and consultant, I know I will reach my target in 2014.

“My son is getting married in the summer and I can’t wait to find the perfect outfit for his big day.”

Mr and Mrs Pawsey live in Lenham but she attends an Ashford group.
