Choirs sing for honours

tcollins@thekmgroup.co.uk Amateur choirs are once again invited to take part in this year’s Equator Choir Competitio­n.

The annual contest sees singing groups from across the county come to Ashford to compete.

The choirs of Ashford’s Highworth Grammar School for Girls and Great Chart Primary School are among past winners and others like the Ashford Community Choir have also taken part.

Choirs of all ages may apply, including youth, school and adult. They must have a minimum of 12 singers and be available to perform at the finalists’ concert from 7pm on Friday, July 4, at the Norton Knatchbull Grammar School in Ashford.

Some choirs will also be invited to perform in a London concert on Friday, June 27, to premiere four new works written by composers, including a tribute piece to Nelson Mandela written by organiser Priti Paintal.

The judging panel will include experience­d musicians, with choirs judged on presentati­on, quality, and choice of material.

The deadline for applicatio­ns is Friday, June 6. All entries must include the name of the choir or school, an address and contact name, a telephone and mobile number, an email address, the size and age-range of choir and a list of the three songs that will be performed.
