County Hall Conservatives may not be wholly enamoured with their counterparts in Westminster, after Chancellor George Osborne announced he intended to devolve powers to Greater Manchester – including the right to have a strategic elected mayor.
Mr Osborne presumably has not been passed the letter that KCC has sent Mr Cameron calling for similar powers for the South East.
It has been a good year for Kent crime commissioner Ann Barnes. How do we know? She has delivered her annual report: over nine pages, it details a lengthy list of accomplishments. Her blog says there would have been even more to tell but she “hasn’t got room for every achievement”. Perhaps that explains the omission of any reference to that disastrous Channel 4 documentary, which featured the now famous “onion” policing model.
Or indeed any reference to the rather embarrassing events surrounding the departure of her first youth commissioner, Paris Brown. Or the ongoing investigation into an accident she was involved with.
