Tredwell signs an extended deal with Kent
England spinner James Tredwell says he is thrilled to have sorted out his future after agreeing a new long-term deal with Kent, writes Alex Hoad.
The Ashford-born bowler came through the ranks at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, before making his First Class debut in 2001 and has gone on to play 39 ODIs for England with a further 17 T20 appearances and one Test cap.
The 32-year-old is due to fly out to Sri Lanka on Sunday for England’s sevenmatch ODI tour but signed an extended deal at Kent to end speculation about his future, which arose after the club’s decision to loan him to Sussex for Championship cricket in June on the back of a below-par performance against Worcestershire, coupled with the sparkling form of Kent’s England Lions prospect Adam Riley.
Tredwell – who skippered Kent in 2013 – said: “I am delighted to secure my future here at Kent. I have been here all my career and it was great to return after my time away with Sussex.
“The future at Kent
looks exciting with lots of home-grown players coming through and I hope to play a part in success going forward.”
Tredwell was one of a half-dozen Kentborn players to have made significant contributions to the club’s 2014 campaign, which saw them fall short in the race for LV= County Championship Division 2 promotion and the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals, while bowing out in the last-four of the Royal London One-Day Cup.
He said: “If we can tighten up in a few areas, we can get the consistency we need to be successful.”
