Pupils’ big day out raises money for Guide Dogs
Schools taking part in the Kentish Express charity day Ted’s Big Day Out have raised more than £1,000.
Last week, pupils from seven Ashford borough primaries brought their favourite cuddly toys in to school and embraced the event’s funky footwear theme by wearing dazzling shoes and socks.
Pat Marshall and her guide dog Chloe visited participating schools on the day as a thank you to pupils helping to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind, the KE’s charity of the year. Four-legged friends Milo and Earl from the charity also made an appearance.
A share of the proceeds raised will also go to road safety services for children.
The participating schools were Aldington, Bethersden, East Stour, John Mayne in Biddenden, Furley Park in Ashford, and Woodchurch.
Dominic Comins from the KM Charity Team, which organised the event, said: “We have had a great response from schools and can’t wait for next year’s event, which will be even bigger and better. As well as schools we’re inviting nurseries, businesses, clubs and community organisations to take part and raise funds for this paper’s charity of the year.” Aldington Primary School won the charity day prize draw to receive a special mock-up front page of the Kentish Express that will highlight their achievements.
