A host of charities benefited to the tune of thousands of pounds at the fifth Brett Ashford Triathlon on Sunday.

Organisers Tri Spirit staged four events in one – sprint and standard events together with two aquabikes, as Conningbro­ok Country Park was the lead venue for the first time.

Event director Liz King, of Tri Spirit Events, said: “It was wonderful seeing so many new triathlete­s competing and enjoying the new route. It was also good to see competitor­s using the event to raise funds for so many good causes.

Noel Sutton, of Deal Tri, won the men’s standard event in two hours, seven minutes 38 seconds, beating former winner and course record holder Scott Wiseman (Ashford Tri) (2:10.10), with Sutton’s clubmate Matthew Collyer third (2:15.46).

Sarah Dowling (Greenwich Tritons) won the women’s event (2:31.53), ahead of Frankie Newby (2:42.43) with Lucy Tomlinson from Maidstone-based Ocean Lake Tri third 92.43.06).

Another Ocean Tri member Joey Davies won the sprint triathlon (1:06.46) ahead of clubmate John Potter (1:08.35) and Michael Barnes, who was third (1:08.39),

Collette Kitterhing (Viceroy) won the women’s race, with Katharine Hall second (1:22.01) and local runner Sam Pyrah third (1:23.58).

Daniel Busbridge (Sportstiks) set a new event record in the Sprint Aquabike winning in 46.11, clipping four mins and 17 seconds off the previous time.

Great Britain internatio­nal paratriath­lete Adrian Heathfield (Ashford Tri) (52.47) was runner-up, with Nick Austin (Ocean Lake Tri) third in 56.27 Fiona Inskip (46.11) was the ladies’ winner.

Kim Dargan (Ocean Lake Tri) was second (1:05.35), with Debra Carpenter third (1:23.47). Steve Wand weaved his magic to win the standard aquabike (1.35.25), ahead of Charles Lancefield (Deal Tri) 1:42.33 and Dave Mahon of Tunbridge Wells Tri Club third (1:44.08)

Sue Macrowan (Trent Park) retained her ladies’ title (1:44.20), with Helen Dee (Ashford Tri) (1:53.35) and Emma Ekins (Ocean Lake Tri) (2:07.40), filling the other podium places.

Tri Spirit results: Standard Tri – Tom Stanley (2:33.00), Julie Bradford (2:47.23), Damian Weiss (2:55.10), Daz Clark (3:13.32) and Sophie Steel (3:23.00), Lucy LloydPrice as part of Team Tenacious (3:13.27).

Sprint Tri – Jonathan Leeson (1:24.17), Tara Symonds (1:28.06), Sarah Peachey (1:29.53), Gill O’Connor (1:34.43), Debbie Milton (1:35.10), Jo Coshell (1:41.42) and Marlon Green (1:51.14).

King added: “I also want to thank the race marshals, including Tri Spirit Team and 1st Park Farm Scouts and all our sponsors.”
