Mr Southerden said that as Hunter Road is a bus route, residents can only park on one side so vehicles often speed up when another driver is holding back to let them past.

He continued: “Speeding is an enormous problem in Hunter Road. You regularly see people going down there at 40 or 50mph and you hear lots of horns going off and people arguing. A lot of residents would like to Hunter Road and Albemarle Road made into alternate one-way streets with speed bumps but the coun- Cllr Jeremy Adby is ABC’s other North Willesboro­ugh ward member and has pledged to support his colleague.

He said: “There is a continuing problem with boy racers, not only in North Willesboro­ugh but in the borough as a whole. Drivers park up in certain car parks and speed around the cil seems to have pooh-poohed that idea.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called to a report of an overturned vehicle. The car had also collided with a number of parked ring road like it’s a race track. It’s getting out of control now.

“Some residents have suggested making Hunter Road and one other one-way but I can’t really see that solving the problem. What we need to do is put in traffic calming measures. Although residents and coun- cillors believe speeding is a problem in Hunter Road, no one has been arrested in connection with Sunday’s crash and there is no suggestion the driver was speeding.
