‘Call us if you are concerned’

-

A helpline has been set up by NHS England for any patients concerned about Levon Mkhitarian.

A spokesman said: “NHS England has been working closely with Kent Police to make sure this individual is brought to justice.

“As soon as we were made aware of the situation we asked all of those organisations who employed this individual to check that patients were not unduly affected and thankfully no harm has been caused.

“Levon Mkhitarian was qualified as a junior doctor but abused his position and we hope the court hearing sends a clear message that those who abuse patients’ trust face serious consequences.

“Fortunately, these sorts of crimes are rare and we can reassure patients that the NHS has strict rules in place which are designed to prevent this happening.

“The NHS Employment Check Standards make very clear the type and level of checks employers must carry out before recruiting staff into NHS positions.

“We have written to hospitals across the country to remind them of the need to make sure that these standards are complied with, not only by their organisations but also by any locum agencies they use.

“We have also set up a helpline which patients can call if they are concerned that they were seen by Levon Mkhitarian.

“The helpline is available Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm on 03000 428380.”
