Walkers can remember family and friends during 10k nighttime challenge

- By Samantha Williams

Excitement is building for the annual Pyjama Walk around Ashford in aid of the Pilgrims Hospices.

The 10K trek will take place this Saturday, starting at the Ashford Designer Outlet, in Kimberley Way.

Entertainment, which starts at 8.30pm, will be provided by Ashford Sings! and the San Pelo Mar, Whitstable’s Community Samba Band.

There will also be a memory wall, which participants can place a star and message on for any lost loved ones.

The walk will then start at 10pm and will see hundreds of people walking around the town.

Walkers, who are encouraged to wear pyjamas or onesies, can enjoy foot massages at the end to complete their evening, as well as receiving one of Pilgrims’ unique Pyjama Walk medals.

Sarah Norrington will be walking with friends and family in memory of her sister Claire Lancewood who sadly passed away at the Hythe Road hospice last year.

Sarah and her team will be dressed up as Care Bears and called ‘Claire’s Bears’.

Sarah said: “Claire would have been 29 last week, making the event especially poignant for our family.

“Claire was cared for by the amazing staff at Pilgrims Hospices.

“Our family were there every day of her stay including my young daughter, allowing plenty of time for cuddles from her auntie.

“My sister was a fun loving girl with a heart of gold and she would love the idea of joining hundreds of walkers in pyjamas to have fun and raise valuable funds.”

Although, online registration has now closed, you can still register on the night for £15 for over 16s and £10 for under 16s.
