Young actors set to dazzle

- By Suz Elvey

A drama group set up to mark the millennium is preparing to put on its next production – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The popular musical, originally written by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is being performed by Ark Drama 2000 (AD2000) at Ashford Youth Theatre in Dover Place.

Bill Myers has been cast in the starring role of the Bible story, while his cousin Tom Myers plays Elvis-like Pharaoh, the most powerful man in Egypt.

Adam Sharp and Sarah Terry share the part of the narrator and two former youth members, Hannah Myers and Rhiannon Webb, are directing part of the show.

Before Joseph, the group is staging In the Beginning, a performance written by AD2000 leaders Ceri Williams and Frederick Webb, based upon The Rhythm of the Lord by Jenny Rawlings, itself a poetic adaptation of a number of Bible stories from both the Old and New Testaments.

It features rap and heavy metal as well as more traditional music.

Leader Darren Scott said: “The rehearsal went very well and we’re ready for the weekend.”

Ark Drama 2000 started as a millennium project for the community of Kingsnorth and Park Farm, offering places to seven to 21-year-olds regardless of their ability.

They have put on more than 25 plays during that time.

In the Beginning and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be performed at 7.30pm tomorrow (Friday) and at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday. Call Jeff for tickets on 01233 502528.
